Wahkeena Falls

Wahkeena Falls is the name of a 242 foot (73 m) waterfall in the Columbia River Gorge means "most beautiful" in Yakama Indian. It is also spelled "Wahkeenah" or "Wah-kee-nah." The waterfall is unlike Multnomah Falls because the water does not just 'plunge' into the ground, some argue Wahkeena is more beautiful then Multnomah! This waterfall is visible directly from the Historic Columbia River Highway, many who pass by often slow down to view this cascading waterfall directly from their car just a few miles away from the famous Multnomah Falls.

The hike up you will encounter Lemmon's Viewpoint named after a brave firefigthter who lost his life battling the forest fire. As you hike up a steep trail climbing 1100 ft. in about a mile, you will see the 20 foot Fairy Falls that falls into the Wahkeena Creek. This is a beautiful hike, I enjoyed it more than Multnomah Falls, its a total of 2 miles roundtrip.

Directions:Along I-84, take exit 31 at the signed turnoff for Multnomah Falls (31 miles east of Portland). Drive 0.7 miles west of Multnomah Falls on the Columbia Gorge Scenic Hwy to the signed turnoff for Wahkeena Falls. There is parking right on the side of the road.
